Sitting on steps drinking tea

Stopping for a mug of tea after shovelling compost, sitting by the shed, this is my view down the way

...and up

And nearby ground elder, ribwort plantain and the first of the speedwells

I riddled some of the compost and sowed some "seedballs" that DivingDaughter sent to Toadlet. the compost looks dry in this pic but it's actually beautifully moist without being soggy. The pots with sticks have two seedballs each; the others just one. Let's see what comes up out of cowslip, red campion, musk mallow, cornflower, oxeye daisy, meadow cranesbill, and yellow toadflax. The seedballs are supposed to be 'scattered' but I think they have more of a chance like this and then we can plant them as plugs in the greensward which is currently dominated in the upper part of the garden by pignut, orange hawkweed, common cat's ear, sorrel, heath bedstraw and springy turf moss. The bottom part of the garden is soggier and mainly has buttercups (two kinds), yellow pimpernel, dock, dandelions, red and white clovers, lady's smock and, of course, pignut.

Then I changed back into clean clothes for more sitting on steps, this time at the front door with my "life is too short for matching" socks

Down and north from the front step
