The first periwinkle
Monbretia shoots and tamarisk moss. Two pics because I can't decide which I prefer
Monbretia shoots poking through last year's leaves. In the past I have cleared these away to compost and the hens loved to have a scratch aound on the uncovered earth. I think I'll leave the composting to take place in situ this year.
Here is the young bird cherry tree with its skirt of monbretia leaves. At thee upper left edge of the photo is some mud. It's where the deer, who nibble the young monbretia shoots, jump over the fence into the garden from the field.
